ive never played a shaman before and i was just wondering…. youj know their totems that they have? to me it seems kinda annoying that they have to put them up everytime they fight… is it like that ? or only a certain spec of shamans use them? also what spec do i go for to do the most damage for a shaman? i will use healing but i dont care if its not instant. please give me any other tips on shams that you can please.. thanks!

My main is a shaman and I’ve played him since the game first came out. To answer your first question. Yes, you have to lay your totems for every encounter. You’ll get used to it though. I’d recommend getting the mod TotemTimers. It allows you to see what totem of each element you last cast and the time it has left before it expires. You can also just click on the mod to recast a totem rather than have to search through them all in your bars to lay it down again.
As far as damage goes it really depends. Shamans can do alot of melee damage if you spec them Enhancement or do alot of casting damage if you spec them Elemental. I preffer Elemental becaue you can sit back and do damage rather than being in the enemies face taking alot of damage as well. You have the oportunity to dual weild now as an Enhancement spec shaman which ups you damage output alot if you have windfury on both weapons although you are really relying on procs for most of your damage. If you go full Elemental you can get a talent that will allow you to regen 10% of your Int every 5 sec even while casting which will allow you to stand back and cast alot longer, and with the Elemental Master skill and the talents that up your damage and crit chance, you have the chance to do alot of damage while your standing back from the fight.
It is really just a matter of what you preffer as far as melee or casting. Healing is something you’ll do wither way so that doesn’t play a part. But shaman can dish out some pretty nasty damage either way. I’ve loved playing my shaman since day 1 and they are fun however you choose to spec them. Experiment a little, it may cost you some gold in respecs but it will help you figure out what you like more.
